ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s export of goods and services to Afghanistan has seen a 3.63 per cent increase during the initial six months of the current fiscal year (2023-24) compared to the corresponding period last year, as reported by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
SBP data indicates that exports to Afghanistan totaled US$260.716 million from July to December (2023-24), marking a rise from US$251.580m recorded during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
However, when assessed on a year-to-year basis, exports to Afghanistan experienced a decline of 26.83pc from December 2022 to December 2023. Moreover, month-on-month exports also witnessed a notable decrease of 46.02pc in December 2023 compared to November 2023, as per SBP data.
Overall, Pakistan’s exports to other countries exhibited a 4.99pc increase in the first six months, rising from US$14.222 billion to US$15.288 billion, according to SBP data. Conversely, imports from Afghanistan into Pakistan during the reviewed months declined significantly by 66.61pc, dropping from US$13.253m to US $4.425m in July-December (2023-24).
On a year-on-year basis, imports from Afghanistan saw a decrease of 28.39pc from December 2022 to December 2023. Furthermore, month-on-month imports from Afghanistan experienced a slight decline of 3.95pc in December 2023 compared to November 2023, according to the provided data.
Overall imports into Pakistan witnessed a decrease of 14.69pc, declining from US$29.588 billion to US $25.241 billion, reflecting the broader trend in trade dynamics, as highlighted by the SBP.
