New facility aims to boost local agricultural machinery production and expand Pakistan’s export potential

LAHORE: Pakistan’s agricultural sector is set to receive a major technological boost as China prepares to establish a state-of-the-art combine harvester manufacturing plant in Punjab. The development was confirmed during a meeting between a Chinese delegation and Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Sahoo in Lahore.

Led by Zaeem Sekho, the Chinese team shared that the plant will produce high-tech harvesters and related machinery built to global standards while being customized to meet the needs of Pakistani farmers. The officials noted that once domestic demand is fulfilled, the machinery will also be positioned for export to regional and international markets—supporting Pakistan’s long-term goal of increasing agri-based industrial exports.

The meeting also evaluated the performance of joint working groups formed between the Punjab Agriculture Department and Chinese companies. These groups are focused on enhancing mechanization, improving technology transfer, and strengthening collaboration in agricultural innovation. The upcoming plant is expected to reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported machinery, lower costs for farmers, generate local employment, and accelerate mechanized farming across Punjab. Officials expressed optimism that this partnership will contribute significantly to improving crop yields, operational efficiency, and overall agricultural competitiveness.
