Consultative meeting highlights Balochistan’s strategic focus on horticulture and olive exports, paving the way for international growth.
QUETTA: A key consultative meeting convened at the Quetta Chamber of Commerce & Industry (QCCI) has brought renewed focus to Balochistan’s untapped potential in horticulture and olive exports. Chaired by the Secretary of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and hosted by QCCI President, the session sought to strategize how the region can leverage its rich agricultural assets to enhance its global market presence.
The meeting featured an extensive presentation on the three-year Horticulture Export Action Plan, outlining strategic initiatives designed to boost export-led growth for Balochistan. As part of this plan, participants discussed a variety of areas ranging from capacity building and market intelligence to the introduction of value-added products. The upcoming Horticulture Exhibition, set to take place in Quetta in August/September 2026, was highlighted as a significant event aimed at attracting both national and international buyers to the province’s agricultural offerings.
One of the central topics discussed was olive cultivation, which is emerging as a priority crop for export. Olive growers, exporters, and business leaders came together to discuss challenges such as improving productivity, enhancing competitiveness, and overcoming barriers to entering global markets. Key suggestions included a focus on grower training, sectoral development, and creating high-value olive products to capture more value from this lucrative market.
Balochistan’s Agricultural Potential and Global Vision
Balochistan is known for its vast land resources, and the meeting reaffirmed that the province has the potential to become a key player in the global agri-export market. The combination of fertile land, strategic location, and growing demand for organic and high-value crops like olives positions Balochistan as an essential region for export-led agricultural growth. The commitment from both public and private stakeholders to strengthen Balochistan’s export readiness was evident, with practical solutions aimed at overcoming challenges and developing the region’s capacity for large-scale export activities.
As a part of the collaborative effort, the stakeholders expressed confidence that Balochistan could not only boost its agricultural economy but also contribute to Pakistan’s broader vision of sustainable and diversified agricultural exports. The province’s olive and horticulture export potential is poised to make a significant impact on both regional and international markets.
A Collaborative Future for Balochistan’s Agriculture
The consultative meeting concluded on a positive note, with all stakeholders agreeing to further enhance cooperation between government bodies, exporters, and local growers. The focus is on transforming Balochistan into a globally competitive player in the agri-export sector, ensuring that the province’s unique agricultural products gain recognition and success on the world stage. The efforts laid out in this meeting are expected to lead to substantial growth in Balochistan’s horticulture and olive sectors, ultimately driving economic development and creating job opportunities within the province.
