ISLAMABAD: Exercising his powers under Article 156 of the Constitution, President Dr Arif Alvi has given his approval for the reconstitution of the 13-member National Economic Council (NEC), a constitutional entity tasked with assessing the nation’s economic condition and formulating strategies to promote equitable development and regional balance.
The council will be presided over by the prime minister, with the chief ministers of all provinces and representatives from the caretaker governments of the federal and provincial levels serving as its members.
As per a statement released by the President House press wing, SM Tanvir, the Caretaker Minister for Power, Industry, Commerce, and Investment, will represent Punjab on the Council, while Muhammad Yunus Dhagha, Minister for Finance, Revenue, Planning, and Development, will be the NEC member from Sindh.
Similarly, Ahmed Rasool Bangash, Minister for Finance, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics, will represent Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on the Council, and Amjad Rasheed, Minister for Finance and Revenue, will do the same for Balochistan.
The federal minister for planning, development, and special initiatives, the minister for communication, railways, and maritime affairs, and the federal minister for power and petroleum will also be part of the NEC.
