LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to immediately file an appeal in the Lahore High Court to vacate the stay orders barring the food department from acquisition of sugar mills records.
The decision was taken at a meeting on rising sugar prices in the province, where Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi was informed by the food secretary that the court’s stay orders have prevented the department from acquiring sugar mill records.
Presiding over the meeting, the chief minister ordered the Punjab advocate general to initiate this appeal urgently for vacation of the stay orders so that sugar prices could be stabilized in the province. The briefing by the food secretary also highlighted that due to these stay orders, sugar hoarders have been enjoying a free hand, resulting in a substantial increase in sugar prices, causing hardship for the people.
Meanwhile, addressing the CEOs in a health conference organised by the Primary & Secondary Health Department at a local hotel, the chief minister said it is both his duty and devotion to work towards improving the healthcare sector.
He regretted that the conditions of hospitals and the overall health sector in the province were far from satisfactory, saying it would be wrong to hold doctors responsible for this situation. Doctors are diligently performing their duties under such hard conditions where sometimes they have to treat five patients on a single bed, he added.
The chief minister said it was the government’s responsibility to provide healthcare facilities to the people.
