KARACHI: Asking the organizers of bachat bazaars (low-price temporary markets) to get fresh permissions, the district East administration recently imposed an immediate ban on all such establishments in the Karachi district.
The deputy commissioner of Karachi’s West Zone has halted the issuance of NOCs for all such bazaars throughout the district.
The organizers seeking to continue their operations must apply for fresh NOCs, subject to completion of the necessary verification procedures through the district administration.
These weekly bachat bazaars in Karachi have become essential in alleviating the impact of inflation on the public. By offering a variety of stalls selling second-hand items, shoes, clothing, blankets, utensils, food items, as well as vegetables and fruits, these bazaars have been serving as a means for the public to manage the challenges posed by inflation.
Currently, approximately 150 bachat bazaars are operating in Karachi under the NOC of the Bureau of Supply and Prices. Moreover, there are an additional 100 bachat bazaars functioning without NOCs, authorized by DCs and regional savings bazaars.
