Several members of the UK poultry industry were bestowed upon awards by Daniel Zeichner MP, the Shadow Food and Farming Minister, recently during an annual event hosted by the British Poultry Council (BPC) at the House of Commons.
Attended by Martin Troop, Chair of the BPC, and other key stakeholders, including farmers and producers, the event celebrated commitment, innovation, and excellence within the poultry industry.
The BPC Annual Awards acknowledged individuals with distinguished careers, contributions to research, potential for future excellence, and those who have significantly supported the British poultry meat industry.
Addressing the audience, Troop emphasized the collective effort to provide safe, affordable, and nutritious food for the nation. He stated, “It’s our people, alone and together, who make a difference, and it is these people we are all here to recognize today.”
The MP underscored the importance of feeding the nation as a matter of national security. He commended the industry for its contribution in ensuring a consistent food supply for the country.
Troop acknowledged the challenges faced by the industry in recent years and called for collaboration between the government and the poultry sector. He expressed the industry’s aspiration to be trusted and valued sustainable food producers, seeking governmental support in achieving this goal.
The BPC’s recent report, ‘2024 and Beyond,’ outlines a roadmap for developing a new and healthy context for British food production. The report urges necessary steps to safeguard the availability, accessibility, and affordability of food, prioritize the viability of poultry meat businesses, and ensure the robustness of supply chains in the future.
Troop addressed the economic challenges faced by businesses and individuals, stressing the need for cooperation between the government and the industry. He highlighted the contributions of the award recipients, saying that benefits can be realized through collaborative efforts.
The event concluded with the presentation of awards to several individuals in recognition of their achievements and contributions to the poultry industry.
Awards were presented to: Mid Career – Chris Chater (Hook2Sisters), Mid Career – Adrian Gavin (Moy Park), Mid Career – David MacArthur (Avara Foods), Mid Career – Anne Richmond (Moy Park), Marketing Award – Paddy Dallat (Moy Park), Special Distinguished Service – James Hook (PD Hook), Distinguished Service – Evelyn Edwards (Hook2Sisters).
Distinguished Service awards were given to Mark Elde (Moy Park), Debbie Foster (Avara Foods), Peter Morgan (Moy Park), Helen Sisson (2 Sisters Food Group).
