LAHORE: In a recent operation, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA), led by its Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, conducted thorough inspections of well-known restaurants and bakeries located on MM Alam Road in Lahore this past Sunday.
During the inspection, the PFA took stern action against five eateries, imposing a total of Rs. 660,000 in fines for their blatant violations of the Punjab Pure Food Regulations. The fines were levied due to the use of substandard cooking oil and ingredients in the preparation of various food items. Additionally, PFA inspectors discovered a disturbingly high presence of insects and severely compromised hygiene conditions in the kitchen areas of these establishments.
Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid revealed that food business operators failed to produce essential documents, such as medical records of their workers, during the raid. This further exacerbated the seriousness of the violations.
Emphasizing the PFA’s commitment to upholding strict standards in the food industry, Javaid reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards substandard food outlets and offenders. He warned all food business operators to adhere to guidelines and provide consumers with safe and healthy food products. Non-compliance, he cautioned, could result in the revocation of their business licenses in accordance with the PFA Act.
Furthermore, Director General Javaid assured the public that the Punjab Food Authority remains dedicated to ensuring the provision of hygienic, safe, and adulteration-free food to the citizens. -PR
