ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data shows that textile exports from Pakistan saw a modest increase of 1.41 percent during the first 11 months of the financial year 2023-24, reaching USD 15.24 billion, up from USD 15.03 billion during the same period last year.
Key highlights include a remarkable 317.77 percent surge in raw cotton exports, which rose to USD 56.09 million from USD 13.43 million last year. Cotton yarn exports increased by 23.47 percent, totaling USD 910.19 million, and bed wear exports grew by 4.77 percent to USD 2.57 billion.
Other positive contributors were towels, up by 6.09 percent to USD 967.94 million, and ready-made garments, which saw a 2.09 percent increase to USD 3.24 billion.
However, certain textile categories experienced declines as cotton cloth exports fell by 6.91 percent to USD 1.73 billion, while yarn other than cotton decreased by 24.08 percent to USD 30.88 million.
Year-on-year, May 2024 showed an 18 percent increase in textile exports compared to May 2023, reaching USD 1.56 billion. Moreover, exports for May 2024 rose by 25.94 percent from April 2024.
Overall, the performance reflects mixed trends in Pakistan’s textile sector amid global economic shifts.
