ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Finance, Revenue, and Power, Ali Pervaiz Malik, says the government has implemented important economic reforms aimed at achieving long-term stability in the country.
Speaking to a private news channel, he emphasized efforts to enhance tax collection by expanding the tax base through digitization and data mining.
The minister noted that despite owning vehicles, engaging in foreign travel, property businesses, and stocks, approximately 4.5 million individuals are evading withholding tax.
“For the first time in history, our data analytics will estimate their incomes to bring them into the tax net,” he added.
These measures are aligned with the prime minister’s vision to transition from a borrowing model to a sustainable economic growth trajectory.
Mr Malik explained that the government is also rationalizing operations by eliminating redundant departments and initiating the privatization of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
He also mentioned that the privatization of distribution companies (Discos) will commence soon, pending necessary reforms in the boards of these companies.
