LAHORE: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore’s Poultry Production department, in partnership with the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA), recently marked ‘World Egg Day’ with the theme “United by Eggs” at the varsity’s Ravi Campus at Pattoki.
The event, aimed to promote awareness about the nutritional value of eggs and their role in human growth, featured a seminar, a walk, a musical performance by special education students, and egg-based cooking competitions. Similar activities were also held at other UVAS campuses.
The seminar was presided over by PPA Central Zone Chairman Abdul Basit, with Sabir Poultry Chairman Dr. FM Sabir was the guest of honour.
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I), PPA Vice Chairman Malik Muhammad Sharif, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof. Dr. Saima, and Dr. Shahid Mehmood, Chairman of the Department of Poultry Production, were present along with poultry professionals, representatives, and students from various institutions.
In his address, Mr. Abdul Basit highlighted the PPA’s initiative of providing eggs to students in classrooms, emphasizing the need to boost egg consumption to tackle the country’s malnutrition challenge.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus said eggs are cost-effective and nutritious source of protein essential for growth, calling for increasing egg production to boost Pakistan’s poultry sector.
He also commended the PPA for supporting UVAS students with internship opportunities. -PR
Prof. Dr. Saima spoke on the nutritional significance of eggs, while Dr. Jibran Hussain discussed the benefits of egg consumption for a healthy population and the role of protein in the diet.
Dr. Shahid Mehmood appreciated the event for raising awareness about incorporating eggs into daily life and extended a vote of thanks.
The day concluded with a walk led by Mr. Abdul Basit, accompanied by dignitaries and students, from the Information Technology Center A Block to the Akram Complex.
At the seminar’s end, cash prizes were distributed among the winners of various competitions by Mr. Abdul Basit, Prof. Dr. Younus, Dr. Saima, Dr. Shahid Mehmood and others.
