FAISALABAD: The Punjab government is launching the registration process for the livestock farmers to apply for the Chief Minister Livestock Card from November 5.
To boost awareness of the scheme, several outreach activities are underway, including the Kisan Livestock Baithak, School Focus Programs, Mobile Veterinary Dispensaries, and Mobile Training School Buses.
Convenience desks have also been established at veterinary hospitals and dispensaries across the region to facilitate farmers.
Livestock Director Dr. Syed Nadeem Badr described the initiative as transformative for livestock farmers, saying that under the scheme, interest-free loans ranging from Rs135,000 to Rs270,000 will be offered to them for a term of five months.
He said the eligibility requirements include Punjab residency, a valid national identity card, and an active mobile SIM registered in the applicant’s name. Applicants must own five to ten cows or calves, though those with more than ten animals are eligible for loans for up to ten animals only.
To apply, eligible farmers can text their identity card number to 8070. Applicants must have a clean credit record verified by the Electronic Credit Information Bureau, with identity checks through NADRA and NACTA.
Additionally, the Urban Unit Department will verify herd ownership, and the applicant’s livestock must be registered in the Livestock Department database (9211). Eligible candidates will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications for the Livestock Card can be submitted online via the Punjab Information Technology Board portal.
The loan will be issued for a maximum of 150 days, with a 120-day usage period followed by a 30-day repayment window. The Punjab government will cover any interest or profit charges associated with the loan.
Farmers will be eligible for a loan of Rs135,000 for at least five cows or calves, equating to Rs27,000 per animal, with a maximum loan limit of Rs 270,000 for up to ten animals. Disbursements will occur monthly, and funds can be used to purchase essential supplies like animal feed, silage, and salt mixtures from registered local dealers through the Bank of Punjab.
