LAHORE: Under the Kissan Card scheme of the Punjab government aimed to revolutionise agricultural development and prosperity of farmers, 1.29 million applications have been submitted through the designated portal, with the Bank of Punjab approving 487,000 of these, while more than 361,000 farmers have been given the cards so far, says an official.
Punjab CM has directed an increase in the number of cards from 500,000 to 700,000, enabling farmers to purchase agricultural inputs, including seeds, fertilisers, and agro-medicines, worth over Rs18 billion.
Farmers are also provided with interest-free loans for buying inputs for wheat crop from 2,600 registered dealers across the province.
Akmir Khaeaja, Director of Public Relations, says that farmers from non-computerised areas will be eligible for Kissan Cards following physical verification. From November 20, farmers will be able to withdraw cash up to 30 percent of their card limit, in addition to buying agricultural inputs. To facilitate this, 136 delivery centres have been established at the tehsil level throughout Punjab.
