KARACHI: The Karachi commissioner has recently issued a notification, fixing the price of chicken at Rs502 per kilogram in the city.
As per the notification, the price of chicken meat has been fixed at Rs502 per kilogram, with the price of chicken from the poultry farm set at Rs310 per kilogram and the wholesale price at Rs318 per kilogram.
The rising prices of chicken meat have posed challenges for the middle class since February 2023, when the cost of live chicken soared to Rs500. This surge in prices has been attributed to the closure of numerous poultry businesses due to a shortage of feed.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and several other cities have also witnessed record-high chicken prices, with one kilogram of poultry meat selling for Rs700-Rs705, further exacerbating affordability concerns for consumers. -PR
