LAHORE: The digitization of the internship management and milk supply management systems at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) was recently inaugurated by the Livestock and Dairy Development Department (L&DDD) secretary.
The systems, developed by the Directorate of Information Technology in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Science, are designed to facilitate UAVS students and staff.
Punjab Livestock Secretary Saqib Ali Ateel was accompanied by Prof Dr Muhammad Younus, Director of Information Technology Rizwan Saleem, and other officials.
During his visit, he also met with Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus. The Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Registrar Sajjad Hyder, and senior UVAS professors and livestock officials were also present.
The secretary stressed the significance of the livestock sector for the national economy, pointing out that 80pc of poor livestock farmers rely on this industry.
He emphasised the urgency of addressing climate change, sustainability, technological innovation, genetic improvements, automation, artificial intelligence, and alternative fodder production to further strengthen the sector.
Mr Ateel highlighted climate change as an immediate challenge and underlined the need to boost exports, eradicate foot and mouth disease, and produce high-quality vaccines to combat livestock diseases. He commended the UVAS expertise, research, and trained professionals in addressing the sector’s challenges.
Prof Dr Muhammad Younus reaffirmed UVAS’ commitment to the development of the livestock sector, noting its close collaboration with the livestock department. He assured that UVAS would continue its support in the sector’s development.
The event also included discussions on UVAS research into dairy animal reproduction through in-vitro fertilisation technology, the integration of IT software with veterinary sciences for student guidance, and the vaccine production process to control livestock diseases.
