FAISALABAD: Expressing satisfaction over the performance of Pakistan’s poultry sector, Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) acting President Dr Sajjad Arshad said that with favorable government policies, the industry could emerge as the country’s second-largest export sector, following textiles.
He was addressing the international conference on “Poultry Health – Challenges in Pakistan,” jointly organised by the World Veterinary Poultry Association (WVPA) and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF).
Dr Arshad expressed contentment with the global recognition of Pakistani poultry products for their high quality. However, he called for improving the poultry supply chain to ensure a continuous surge in exports.
He suggested developing indigenous parent flock, layers, and broilers, besides strengthening the poultry feed and pharmaceutical industry to meet domestic demand.
He welcomed the introduction of new soybean varieties by UAF, envisioning self-reliance in soybean production within the next three years, hoping this would not only alleviate rural poverty but also address the country’s need for affordable protein while opening avenues for surplus product exports in international markets.
Commending the efforts of WVPA President Dr Hanif Nazir, Secretary General Dr Kashif Saleemi and Dr Farzana for organising the international event, Dr Arshad also praised the Pakistan Poultry Association for its initiatives. He stressed the necessity of producing skilled manpower to enhance the scientific production of eggs and chicken.
Dr Arshad hoped with these measures Pakistan’s poultry industry will have a bright future and contribute more to the country’s economy, food security and the global export.
