ISLAMABAD: At a meeting with US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Deputy Director Kevin Piccoli, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted the critical roles of agriculture and information technology in Pakistan’s economic development.
The meeting, also attended by SECP Chairman Akif Saeed, Finance Division officials, and US Embassy representatives, focused on bolstering Pakistan’s agricultural commodities market and strengthening collaboration between SECP and CFTC through capacity-building initiatives.
Senator Aurangzeb emphasised the substantial contribution of agriculture to Pakistan’s GDP, pointing to a 6.25pc growth in FY2024, driven by strong crop yields, underscoring the positive impact of consistent growth in agriculture and the IT sector.
In a separate meeting, Mr Aurangzeb met with K-Electric’s Board of Directors Chairman Mark Skelton and discussed the company’s plans to meet Karachi’s energy needs while transitioning to renewable energy.
Senior management of K-Electric and Finance Division officials also attended the meeting. The K-Electric team presented their strategy for integrating renewable energy to lower electricity costs and enhance service delivery in Karachi.
The minister lauded K-Electric’s initiatives and reiterated the government’s commitment to private sector participation in the energy sector.
He highlighted ongoing reforms, including the privatisation of three distribution companies, aimed at improving efficiency and service quality.
