PESHAWER: Flour millers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have demanded immediate withdrawal of the recent increase in fixed tax in electricity bills and the withholding tax on the transportation of flour, warning of countrywide agitation if the demand was not met.
The demand was made during a meeting of the executive committee of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, chaired by the PFMA KP chairman Haji Muhammad Iqbal.
The committee reacted strongly against the imposition of additional and “unfair” taxes on the flour mill industry and other industrial institutions, as well as the exorbitant increase in fixed tax on electricity bills in the federal budget for 2024-25.
It condemned the hike in fixed tax on minimum demand indicators (MDIs) and the imposition of withholding tax on the transportation of flour, terming these measures highly unjust and unfair to dealers and the general public.
Haji Muhammad Iqbal warned that if the federal government fails to withdraw these additional taxes, an agitation will be launched at both provincial and central levels.
