In its efforts to ensure sustainability in poultry industry, a known feed manufacturer — For Farmers — has transformed production through prioritizing responsible sourcing, dietary refinement, and the exploration of alternative proteins.
“Our commitment to sustainable food production extends throughout the entire supply chain, and as feed manufacturers, we acknowledge our pivotal role in this endeavor,” says a spokesperson for For Farmers. “Efficiency and responsibility are our guiding principles.”
For Farmers has been primarily focusing on the sourcing of key ingredients, particularly soya, an important protein source in poultry nutrition.
The company procures certified soya bean meal from responsible sourcing schemes, which ensure compliance with strict guidelines, including the prevention of deforestation, thus mitigating the carbon footprint of poultry farming.
It has also made progress in refining poultry diets to reduce reliance on soya, cutting its content in the feed by 10pc, through research and development. Instead of soya, the company uses alternative proteins such as sunflower meal to not only enhance sustainability but also stress its commitment to innovation in feed making.
For Farmers has also decreased phosphorus content in feeds by using phytase enzymes, and unlocking phosphorus bound in plant molecules, thereby reducing dependence on mineral phosphate without compromising on birds’ dietary needs. It has resulted in considerable cut in total dietary phosphorus content, contributing to environmental conservation efforts.
The company is also conducting research on EU-produced raw materials like sunflower and rapeseed meal, besides insect-derived proteins and microalgae, for sustainable feed production.
Through adopting such innovative approaches, For Farmers is striving to transform the poultry industry and making it more sustainable, setting an example for the entire agricultural sector.
