ISLAMABAD: To economically empower marginalised sections of society and help the country to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU was signed by ICC head Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawri and Unicef representative Abdullah A Fadil, at the ICCI.
During the MoU signing ceremony, Mr Bakhtawari lauded Unicef Pakistan’s work to address crucial issues in health, education, child protection, skills development, climate change, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene, and social protection sectors.
He reiterated the ICCI’s commitment to support Unicef in initiatives focused on advancing children’s rights and enhancing the economic empowerment of underserved segments of society.
He pledged ICCI’s assistance in mobilising its members to collaborate with Unicef in areas of mutual interest for the welfare of impoverished communities.
Mr Fadil appreciated ICCI for joint initiatives in education, youth entrepreneurship, climate change, and other areas, saying Unicef would offer technical support in raising awareness in the business community to protect children’s rights better and integrate out-of-school children into the formal education system.
He said the collaborative efforts between ICCI and Unicef will work together to formulate conducive policies and regulatory frameworks, adding that this partnership aims to create an enabling environment for promoting business and investment activities, empowering marginalised communities, and enhancing their living standards.
