ISLAMABAD: Speakers at an international seminar on the diverse applications of palm oil derivatives, beyond culinary uses, raised awareness about the sustainability of these products in Pakistan.
The Embassy of Indonesia and COMSTECH jointly organized the seminar at the COMSTECH Auditorium in Islamabad, emphasizing the nutritional benefits of palm oil and its derivatives, and highlighting their positive impacts on health and well-being.
The speakers also highlighted the role of palm oil in Indonesia’s economy, contributing 4.5pc to the GDP and supporting over 17 million jobs, besides highlighting Indonesia’s advancements in eco-friendly production practices, per global sustainability goals.
COMSTECH Adviser Prof Dr. Syed Khurshid Hasnain reiterated COMSTECH’s commitment to enhancing research and industrial applications of natural products from OIC member countries. He stressed the economic potential of science and technology in benefiting member nations.
He hoped the collaboration between Indonesia and COMSTECH will continue to strengthen, with upcoming initiatives focusing on nutraceuticals and halal cosmetics, reflecting shared goals in advancing science and technology among OIC member states.
Indonesian Chargé D’Affaires Mr. Rahmat Hindiarta Kusuma encouraged bilateral trade relations, inviting Pakistani businesses to participate in Trade Expo Indonesia 2024. He showcased palm oil’s versatility beyond traditional uses, citing applications in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and biofuels.
The seminar attracted a diverse audience including entrepreneurs, scholars, students, and journalists. Participants received goodie bags from Indomie Pakistan, highlighting the widespread use of palm oil in consumer products. -PR
