UNITED KINGDOM: The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has recently granted full recognition to the Department of Veterinary Medicine at The University of Nottingham.

The university is presently among the few veterinary schools around the world to carry certification from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in the United States and Canada, the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) in Europe, and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Certification in the United Kingdom, that also gives graduates a professional license in Ireland, Australia, and South Africa.

Through this most prestigious distinction, the university’s veterinary graduates now are competent to practice anywhere around the world. The highest standard of accomplishment for veterinary science schools in the US is AVMA certification. During an audit visit earlier this year, certification demonstrates that the University of Nottingham fulfills AVMA’s demanding standards and comprehensive performance appraisal procedure.

According to the most recent National Student Survey (NSS), the University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Science was the largest vet school in the profession, with an overall favorable rating of 97%. It also has a distinction for the excellence of its student community.

The school was praised in the AVMA inspection report for its commitment to EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) by pioneering the implementation of a widely renowned MOOC (massive open online course) to assist applicants that don’t have the resources or credentials to gain veterinary placement experience prior to applying.

As reported by the School of Veterinary Medicine and Sciences at the University of Nottingham stated “This is wonderful news, demonstrating the quality of our program and showing how it corresponds to other programs in the world. Together with our certification from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education, I am rather pleased with the realization that the AVMA has acknowledged our university as an international school of prestige”.
