LAHORE: The College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (CVAS) Jhang, a Sub Campus of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC), Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and Punjab Agriculture Research Board (PARB) organised the concluding ceremony of the International One Health Conference at UVAS City Campus Lahore.
Vice-Chancellor King Edward University Lahore Prof Kazi Muhammad Saeed presided over the concluding session of the conference while Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Principle CVAS Jhang Prof Dr Abdul Shakoor, Conference Organiser Prof Dr Muhammad Fiaz Qamar and many renowned academicians, researchers, extension workers, public and private practitioners, veterinary and human pharmaceuticals and students related to veterinary & animal sciences, zoology, wildlife, fisheries, poultry, livestock and medical sciences related to public health while experts from different countries, including America, Germany, Egypt, Bangladesh, Turkey, Bahrain, UAE, India, Sudan and all over Pakistan attended.
The conference recommended the exchange of students among different universities within Pakistan and abroad. Pandemic diseases like tuberculosis, para-tuberculosis, brucellosis, rabies, Congo and dengue fever can be controlled by joint venture and awareness campaign of agriculture, environment, livestock and health sector. The key is working together and UVAS is in process of initiating degree of MPhil in One Health. The curriculum should be revised according to modern day need. The political will and ownership of One Health with industry and academia linkages will facilitate the concept of One Health.
Speaking on the occasion, Kazi Muhammad Saeed said such conference is necessary for providing & sharing innovative knowledge, enhancing experiences & skill and developing social interaction with national and international experts. He advised students to keep environment clean through promotion of greenery and prevention is better than treatment.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha spoke about the misconceptions about poultry meat and said that these are only misconceptions, there is no truth in them. He said no steroids are added to poultry feed and accelerated growth of the chicken is due to genetics. If you give same feed to desi chicken, they will never grow like broilers,” Prof Pasha asserted. He said majority of the population living in the rural areas of Pakistan are livestock farmers so it is necessary to create awareness among them regarding prevention of diseases, measures, deworming and treatment of the animals.
Later Prof Kazi Muhammad Saeed along with Prof Dr Pasha distributed shields among foreign speakers who had come from different part of the world. The one health conference was dedicated to improving the lives of all species – humans and animals, through integration of human medicine, veterinary medicine and environmental science. During the conference various activities were conducted including technical sessions, plenary lectures, oral and poster presentations and a mini exhibition.
