KARACHI: In a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s research ecosystem in animal and biological sciences, Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, to promote collaboration in livestock genomics and academic research.
The agreement was formally concluded during the visit of a CUVAS delegation led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz to ICCBS, where a signing ceremony was held at the Center. The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director ICCBS, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz on behalf of their respective institutions, in the presence of senior officials from both sides.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah highlighted ICCBS’s standing as a leading center of excellence in chemical, biological, and biochemical sciences, serving as an international hub for research and training scholars from multiple countries. He noted that ICCBS is recognized globally and has been designated a Centre of Excellence by UNESCO, World Health Organization, The World Academy of Sciences, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
He added that the MoU creates a framework for collaboration between ICCBS and CUVAS in line with international academic standards and national regulations, under mutually agreed terms.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz said that CUVAS, as a public-sector university, is committed to addressing industry needs through specialized degree programs, cutting-edge research initiatives, advanced technology centers, and impactful services.
