JHANG: In a proactive step toward promoting sustainable livestock management, the CVAS Dairy Club at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Jhang Campus, hosted a seminar on 3rd March 2026, focusing on innovative housing systems and methane mitigation in the dairy sector.

The event was held under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Rana Muhammad Younus, Vice Chancellor of UVAS, and Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science. Titled “Different Housing Systems and Modern Dairy Technologies with Special Focus on Methane Mitigation in the Livestock Sector,” the seminar bridged academic research with practical solutions for modern dairy farming.

Expert keynote on methane mitigation

The seminar featured a technical session led by Dr. Muhammad Zahid Farooq, Convener of the CVAS Dairy Club. His lecture highlighted how innovative housing systems and management strategies can significantly reduce enteric methane emissions, underscoring the importance of environmentally sustainable practices alongside farm productivity.

Industry and academic insights

The seminar also featured Guest Speaker Mr. Amir Gill, a progressive farmer, who shared practical insights into applying modern dairy technologies under local farming conditions. He emphasized the economic and environmental benefits of investing in advanced housing systems for both small and large-scale farms.

From the academic perspective, Prof. Dr. Arfan Zaman and Prof. Dr. Ehtesham ul Haq presented advanced strategies to minimize methane emissions, highlighting the need for Pakistan’s livestock sector to align with global sustainability standards.

Student leadership and organizational excellence

Dr. Syed Aun Muhammad Shah, Associate Senior Tutor, commended the student organizers for curating a technically rich program. The session, convened by Dr. Farooq, reaffirmed the Dairy Club’s commitment to experiential learning, going beyond traditional classroom teachings.
