Brazil’s poultry genetics exports, including one-day-old chicks and fertile eggs, surged to 1,960 tonnes in September, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), showing a 7.2pc rise from the 1,829 tonnes exported in the same month last year, with export revenue increasing by 5.4pc to $18.7 million.
For the first nine months of 2024, total exports reached 20,243 tonnes, up 5.9pc from the 19,124 tonnes shipped during the corresponding period in 2023. However, revenue from these exports declined by 5.5pc, amounting to $170 million, compared to $179.9 million the previous year.
For the second month running, Venezuela emerged as the top destination, importing 678 tonnes in September—an extraordinary 1,395pc increase from last year. Other key markets included Mexico (504 tonnes, down 50.9pc), Senegal (251 tonnes, down 22.1pc), Paraguay (167 tonnes, down 5.3pc), and Saudi Arabia (124 tonnes, up 141.6pc).
“There is a shift in the flow of genetic exports among Latin American countries, driven by strong demand from Venezuela, which has been investing in rebuilding its local poultry industry,” says ABPA President Ricardo Santin.
