ISLAMABAD: The country earned $410.268 million from exporting 200,709 metric tonnes of fish and fish preparations during the fiscal year 2023-24, posting 17.38% decline compared to the $496.565 million earned in the previous fiscal year.
As per the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data, in terms of quantity, fish exports dropped by 6.45pc, from 214,542 metric tonnes in FY 2022-23. On a year-on-year basis, seafood exports fell by 22.19pc to $31.044 million in June 2024, down from $39.896 million in June 2023.
The quantity exported in June 2024 also decreased by 16.99pc to 15,689 metric tonnes, compared to 18,901 metric tonnes in the same month last year.
Meanwhile, month-on-month, seafood exports declined by 16.26pc in June 2024 from $37.070 million in May. The quantity exported also fell by 16.45pc from 18,778 metric tonnes in May 2024.
Despite the decline in fish exports, the overall food group exports from Pakistan rose by 46.77pc during the fiscal year, reaching $7,369.917 million, compared to $5,021.290 million in the previous year.
