ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Chairman Dr Ghulam Muhammad Ali has stressed the importance of integration of modern technology into the agriculture sector in Pakistan, creating lucrative investment opportunities that could uplift rural areas.
In an interview with PTV news channel, Dr Ali highlighted that PARC is at the forefront of capacity-building initiatives, conducting programmes across various provinces to educate the farmers on contemporary techniques.
“The agricultural sector requires increased investment, and integrating technology into agriculture is imperative at this juncture,” Dr Ali stated. “Enhancing agricultural productivity through advanced farm mechanisms and facilitating agricultural credit for rural economies, particularly for the acquisition of modern technologies, is essential,” he added.
PARC has been organising training programmes for farmers to disseminate knowledge, sharing best practices to enhance the productivity and profitability of agribusiness enterprises.
Dr Ali underscored the importance of farmers not only embracing technology but also spreading awareness and guiding fellow farmers on hydroponics technology to prevent potential food shortages in the country.
Highlighting the role of agricultural research, he asserted that it can significantly contribute to improving crop productivity, thereby increasing profitability for farmers.
Dr Ali stressed the need to strengthen collaboration between the industry and academia to promote modern agricultural technology, urging agricultural scientists to make concerted efforts to address farmers’ challenges.
Highlighting PARC’s initiatives, he mentioned the development of new varieties of high-yielding seeds for major and minor crops to boost per-acre crop output and meet the growing demand for food.
He concluded by stressing the importance of every scientist contributing to the promotion of research culture within the council.
