ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Business Council (PBC) recently held meetings with caretaker federal ministers Dr Gohar Ejaz and Muhammad Ali to deliberate on strategies aimed at boosting international trade, exports, and enhancing the overall business environment.
During these meetings, the PBC put forth recommendations to tackle economic challenges, including the rationalisation of key inputs such as electricity, gas, and labour.
The commerce minister expressed his commitment to facilitating trade and promoting regional economic relationships. Dr Gohar Ejaz emphasised the importance of combating smuggling and enhancing the functionality of the industrial sector.
Plans to expand markets, increase IT exports, and promote e-commerce were also discussed, with a particular emphasis on positioning the IT sector as a substantial contributor to the country’s GDP.
These meetings will help strengthen Pakistan’s trade connections and enhance the business climate.
The Ministry of Commerce has pledged to take concrete steps to implement these recommendations, with the ultimate goal of achieving sustainable economic growth.
In a separate meeting, interim Minister for Energy, Muhammad Ali, held discussions with a delegation from the Pakistan Business Council at the Power Division. The primary focus of the discussions centered on industrial tariffs and exploring green energy alternatives.
The minister acknowledged the pivotal role played by the industry in the nation’s economy and stressed the urgency of addressing pertinent issues. He directed relevant authorities to engage with the business community and prioritise their concerns.
