LAHORE: According to a report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the weekly inflation, as measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), witnessed a 0.33 percent decline for the combined consumption group during the week ending on October 26.
The SPI for this week was recorded at 277.11 points, down from 278.04 points in the previous week, based on PBS data.
Comparatively, when compared to the corresponding week of the previous year, the SPI for the combined consumption group in the current week has risen by 29.65 percent. The weekly SPI, which utilizes the base year 2015-16 as 100, encompasses 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.
For the lowest consumption group with expenditures up to Rs 17,732, the SPI saw a decrease of 0.25 percent, falling to 283.77 points from last week’s 284.47 points.
Similarly, the SPI for consumption groups ranging from Rs 17,732 to Rs 44,175 and above Rs 44,175 experienced decreases of 0.31 percent, 0.33 percent, 0.36 percent, and 0.33 percent, respectively.
During the week under review, out of the 51 monitored items, prices of 14 items (27.45pc) increased, 17 items (33.33pc) decreased, and 20 items (39.22pc) remained stable.
Notably, certain items experienced significant fluctuations in their average prices on a week-on-week (WoW) and year-on-year (YoY) basis. Examples include tomatoes, onions, rice irri-6/9, bananas, gur, pulse masoor, sugar, mustard oil, eggs, salt powdered, garlic, tea prepared, bread plain, mutton, gas charges for q1, cigarettes, chili powder, rice basmati broken, wheat flour, gents sponge chappal, and vegetable ghee 1 kg.
