PESHAWAR: The rising costs of feed, chicks, and electricity have pushed the cost of live chicken in Peshawar up by Rs20, now reaching Rs490 per kilogram, with chicken meat prices also climbing to Rs735 per kilogram.
Traders explain that the ongoing price hikes are due to escalating expenses in raising chickens, which are subsequently passed on to consumers. Fluctuations in poultry prices in Punjab also influence those in Peshawar, exacerbating the current price surge.
The persistent rise in chicken prices is causing concern among Peshawar residents, who face higher costs for a staple protein source, putting pressure on household food budgets and raising concerns about affordability.
