LAHORE: The Punjab government has allocated Rs9 billion for the livestock sector in the budget for the financial year 2024-25, with most of the funds directed towards the Chief Minister’s initiatives.
A sum of Rs4bn will be spent on the Foot and Mouth Disease Eradication Programme, Rs2 billion for the Livestock Card, and Rs1 billion for livestock asset transfer to rural women in South Punjab, including the districts of Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanewal, Kot Addu, Layyah, Lodhran, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, and Vehari.
Other projects include strengthening extension services and semen production in Karaniwala and Qadirabad.
A sum of Rs5.3 billion has been earmarked for the Fisheries Department. Out of this, Rs5.2 billion will go towards the Chief Minister’s initiatives, such as establishing a model fish market in Lahore and promoting shrimp farming in the province.
