LAHORE: The Punjab agriculture department will provide farmers 22 types of machinery, including tractors and harvesters at subsidized rates under an extensive plan aimed at promoting farm mechanization across the province.
The blueprint underwent scrutiny in a recent meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, held at the Civil Secretariat that was also attended by agriculture secretary and other relevant officers.
The chief secretary highlighted the pivotal role of agriculture as the backbone of the country’s economy and underscored the Punjab government’s commitment to enhancing this critical sector.
Acknowledging the indispensability of modern technology for increased productivity, Zaman asserted that farm mechanization is a key driver to boost crop production while minimizing losses.
He said that embracing machinery for residue management also contributes to controlling smog.
The comprehensive plan reflects the government’s commitment to advancing agriculture through technological innovation, with a specific focus on empowering farmers through affordable access to essential machinery.
The initiative not only aims to enhance productivity but also addresses environmental concerns related to residue management and air quality.
