LAHORE: The Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Board (PLDDB) has devised a strategy to employ both fruit and corn waste and use them for providing feed to the cattle. This initiative is a part of the Nutritious Resource Management Program run by the PLDDB.
Consultant PLDDB, Dr. Masood Parvez, discussed his views regarding seeds acquired from mangoes and other similar edible items, and how they can diversify the sources of cattle feed.
The quantity of mango used in manufacturing plants for pulp production stand at 320,000 tons in Punjab, and almost 50% of the fruit comprises of pulp and the remaining is its peel and seed, that is of no use to the manufacturers.
As the demand for livestock feed is increasing day by day, alternatives are required to keep the animals healthy, to ensure healthy meat and nutritious milk.
According to PLDDB Senior Manager, Dr. Wasi Muhammad, Maize cob, which is a by-product of high-yielding cereal crop worldwide, is also being used in this program, to provide optimum feed to animals.
