AVN Report
LAHORE: The dairy safety teams of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) in a crackdown on the adulteration mafia, disposed of 377,000 liters of adulterated milk and imposed a collective fine amounting to Rs43.1m during the past month.
Providing details, PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid informed reporters that the teams conducted inspections on over 19,600 milk shops and examined more than 52,500 milk carrier vehicles across the province, checking a total of 43m liters of milk.
He said that following lacto scan tests, the authority discarded 9,425 maunds of impure milk due to contamination with polluted water, hazardous substances, low-fat levels, and inadequate nutritional values.
He added that harmful ingredients were used to enhance milk thickness and sustain fat levels, posing a significant threat to consumer health and leading to stomach and intestinal ailments.
To ensure the safe supply of milk to households in Punjab, daily checks on milk quality are being carried out through screening checkpoints, he said.
The director general told the public that they could avail themselves of free milk testing services by visiting the nearest PFA office with a 200ml sample of raw milk.
He urged citizens to report any suppliers of adulterated milk to the Punjab Food Authority helpline for prompt action.
