HYDERABAD: Two crucial Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed by Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam and the Research Institute of Pomology, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IPCAAS), to enhance pomology research and promote sustainable development in the fruit industry.
The first MoU, signed by SAU Vice Chancellor Dr. Fateh Marri and IPCAAS Director General Prof. Dr. Cheng Cungang, lays the groundwork for scientific collaboration in agricultural and pomological research. This agreement includes technical cooperation, personnel exchange, postgraduate training, and the commercialization of new technologies.
The initiative will be coordinated by Prof. Dr. Manzoor Ali Abro, Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khaskheli, Prof. Dr. Inayatullah Rajper, and Dr. Niaz Ahmed Wahocho from SAU, along with Dr. Zhou Zongshan and Dr. Cong Jianlin from IPCAAS.
A Steering Committee, chaired by Prof. Dr. Cheng Cungang in China and Prof. Dr. Fateh Marri in Pakistan, will oversee the progress and secure funding for expert exchanges and forum organization.
The second MoU, signed by Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khaskheli from SAU and Dr. Zhou Zongshan from IPCAAS, focuses on establishing the Sino-Pakistan Modern Demonstration Orchard emphasizes bilateral technical cooperation through resource sharing, collaborative research, training, technical projects, and academic publications.
Intellectual property resulting from this partnership will be jointly owned, and a steering committee will facilitate funding and promote bilateral collaboration.
Following the signing of the MoUs, VC Dr. Marri, IPCAAS Director Prof. Dr. Zhou Zongshan, and other experts from both institutions inaugurated the demonstration orchard site at SAU’s Malir Farm.
These agreements represent a significant step forward in scientific and technical collaboration in pomology, enhancing sustainable fruit production and reinforcing the cooperative ties between Pakistan and China.
