KARACHI: A ‘Rice Cell’ will be established at the Governor House, Karachi, to further enhance Pakistan’s rice exports, said Sindh Governor Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori during the 16th Export Awards Ceremony of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP).
Governor Tessori lauded the rice exporters for achieving a record $4 billion in exports during FY24, calling it a historic milestone for the country.
He pledged to address outstanding issues faced by the rice exporters and emphasized that the newly established Rice Cell would offer dedicated support to the sector.
During the ceremony, the governor presented export awards to leading rice exporters. He honoured Abdul Rahim Janoo for his philanthropic work, recommending him for the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his contributions, including free eye camps for the underprivileged over the past 36 years.
REAP Chairman Chela Ram Kewlani expressed optimism about achieving the $5 billion export target for the current fiscal year, despite ongoing challenges in the rice export sector.
He, along with REAP officials, also presented a commemorative shield to Governor Tessori during a cake-cutting ceremony celebrating REAP’s silver jubilee.
The event was attended by REAP members, diplomats, and prominent figures from the business community.
