ISLAMABAD: The first half of the current financial year witnessed a remarkable increase in meat and rice exports from Islamabad, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
During this period, meat and meat products exports surged to $239.711 million, marking a substantial growth of 24.90 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. This growth was accompanied by a rise in exported metric tons, totaling 59,310 metric tons compared to 41,672 metric tons previously, valued at $191.915 million.
Simultaneously, rice exports from the country experienced a significant surge, with a growth rate of 76.53pc. Pakistan exported 2.570 million metric tons of rice, valued at $1.638 billion, compared to 1.732 million metric tons worth $927.918 million in the same period last year. Additionally, 2.252 million metric tons of other rice varieties, valued at $1.270 million, were exported, compared to 1.464 million metric tons worth $645.380 million previously.
Overall, food group exports from Pakistan showcased robust growth, soaring by 49.84 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching $3.481 billion. Conversely, food group imports decreased by 19.48 percent to $3.957 billion, down from $4.914 billion in the previous year.
In a broader context, total exports during the reviewed period increased by 5.17 percent, reaching $14.981 billion, while imports decreased by 16.28 percent to $26.129 billion. These figures indicate a positive trend in the country’s trade dynamics, characterized by a notable increase in
exports and a significant reduction in imports.
