KARACHI: Sindh Livestock Department has declared Umarkot and Tharparkar districts as Foot and Mouth Disease-free (FMD-Free) vaccine zones to ensure local populations have access to milk and meat from disease-free animals, thereby boosting the export business.
The decision to this effect was made at a meeting presided over by CM’s Adviser for Livestock, Fisheries, and Human Settlement Authority, Syed Najmi Alam, where he received a detailed briefing on ongoing projects and upcoming development plans for the new financial year.
The meeting was also attended by Livestock and Fisheries Secretary Dr. Kazim Hussain Jatoi, Director General Dr. Hizbullah Bhutto, and other relevant officials.
During the briefing, the adviser was informed about the establishment of a Grievances Cell (GRM) in the Livestock Department, aimed at addressing the needs and grievances of cattle owners promptly. The department aims to achieve a 70-80pc coverage target for the FMD vaccine.
It was also announced at the meeting that private farms will be registered this year.
The meeting also announced the introduction of a three-year diploma course at the Artificial Insemination Training Center in Tondojam, under the Animal Breeding Wing of the Livestock Department to address youth unemployment in Sindh by equipping young people with skills to pursue their own ventures.
Mr Alam said that all activities are intended to provide facilities to the poor and needy in Sindh, following directives from the PPP leadership, particularly Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
