BEIJING, CHINA: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed horror recently at the devastating strike on a Gaza hospital that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people last Sunday.
Speaking before departing for the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, Guterres called for immediate and unconditional action on multiple fronts. He appealed to Hamas to release hostages without delay and called on Israel to grant immediate, unrestricted access to humanitarian aid for Gaza’s beleaguered population.
Additionally, Guterres stressed the importance of promoting effective debt relief mechanisms to ensure that countries participating in the Belt and Road program are not burdened with unsustainable debt.
The strike on the Gaza hospital has raised international concerns about the ongoing conflict in the region, with the UN chief joining the chorus of voices demanding urgent action to address the humanitarian crisis and bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
