LAHORE: In a landmark move for Pakistan’s agri-food sector, Big Bird Foods Limited (BBFL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Alibaba Group, a leading Chinese multinational in global e-commerce. The company disclosed the development today in its official notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).
According to BBFL, the agreement will enable direct export access to Alibaba’s international B2B e-commerce platforms, including Alibaba.com. This means BBFL can now showcase and sell its poultry and processed food products to verified buyers in more than 190 countries and regions.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone in BBFL’s international expansion strategy,” the company noted, adding that it aims to enhance brand visibility, increase export revenue, and drive long-term value creation for shareholders.
A gateway to the $350 billion global poultry market
The international poultry meat market is currently valued at over $350 billion annually, driven by rising global demand for affordable protein sources. BBFL’s entry into this space through Alibaba’s platform is a strategic step to position the Pakistani brand in competitive international markets across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.
Founded in September 2011, BBFL began as a poultry processing unit with a mission to deliver high-quality chicken products to both local and international consumers. With this partnership, BBFL is expected to scale its operations and bring Pakistani halal poultry to global shelves.
The collaboration also reflects growing cross-border e-commerce trends, where digital trade bridges markets for food exporters from developing economies, offering enhanced reach, compliance solutions, and supply chain visibility.
Strategic implications for Pakistan’s export economy
This Alibaba-BBFL alliance could serve as a model for other Pakistani exporters, particularly in the agri-food sector, to digitally transform their international outreach. It also aligns with national goals to diversify exports and strengthen food manufacturing’s global footprint.
As Pakistan navigates a challenging economic landscape, such public-private collaborations offer hope for sustainable export-led growth.
