World Milk Day celebrated at CVAS Jhang with seminars, walk, and dairy innovation talks

JHANG: The College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CVAS), Jhang commemorated World Milk Day 2025 with vibrant celebrations that blended scientific dialogue, youth engagement, and public awareness on the importance of milk in human nutrition and the sustainability of the dairy sector.

The day-long celebration was held under the visionary leadership of Meritorious Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus (DLA.SI), Vice-Chancellor, and supported by Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dean (FVS), Prof. Dr. Iahtasham Khan, Principal CVAS Jhang, and Dr. Muhammad Zahid Farooq, Convener of the CVAS Dairy Club, which organized the event.

Faculty members including Prof. Dr. Syed Aun Muhammad (Senior Tutor), Prof. Dr. Arfan Zaman, Prof. Dr. Ehtisham ul Haq, Dr. Yassar Abbas, Dr. Mubashar Hassan, and Dr. Mateen played an active role in ensuring the event’s success.

Highlighting milk’s role in public health and sustainability

The celebrations kicked off with an awareness walk, advocating for increased milk consumption and spotlighting the role of the dairy industry in sustainable food systems. It was followed by an engaging seminar featuring distinguished guest speakers and dairy sector stakeholders, who shared insights on milk safety, innovation, and the regulatory landscape in Pakistan.

Key speakers included:
➡️ Imtiaz Hussain, Additional Director (Operations), Faisalabad Division, who spoke on the “Power of Pure Dairy Products in the Healthy Life of People.”
➡️ Dr. Ihsan ur Rehman Akbar, Additional Director Livestock, Jhang, who presented on “ADRS Technology for Disease Reporting.”
➡️ Mr. Adnan Haider, Punjab Food Authority, on “How Punjab Food Authority Ensures Consumer Well-being.”
➡️ Mr. Adeel Shahid, Punjab Food Authority, with a detailed overview on “Milk Adulteration in Pakistan and its Harmful Additives.”
➡️ Mr. Amir Gill, a progressive farmer, highlighted real-world challenges faced by dairy farmers.

Academic leadership and student engagement take center stage

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Muhammad Zahid Farooq, Convener of the Dairy Club, emphasized that dairy is not just vital for nutritional security, but also plays a key role in rural livelihoods and economic growth. He noted that adequate milk intake is crucial for preventing stunted growth in children caused by nutritional deficiencies.

The event also included:

  • An interactive quiz competition focused on dairy science, with exciting prizes for the top scorers.
  • A milk drinking contest, which generated great excitement among students, with Awais Raza (2nd semester DVM) winning the title.
  • An oath-taking ceremony for the newly appointed Dairy Club cabinet, reaffirming their commitment to advancing dairy education, innovation, and outreach.

The celebrations concluded with the distribution of milk bottles to all attendees, reinforcing the message of milk’s vital role in health, nutrition, and food security.

World Milk Day at CVAS Jhang stood as a model event that combined education, youth leadership, scientific rigor, and community engagement to promote a healthier, dairy-empowered future.
