Foremost Farms, a prominent dairy cooperative in the United States, in a move towards sustainability, has joined the Farm Powered Strategic Alliance led by Vanguard Renewables, in a bid to harness renewable energy produced from organic waste.
Representing hundreds of farms across seven Midwestern states, Foremost Farms commits to recycling organic waste and exploring avenues to convert it into renewable natural gas. This decision shows the cooperative’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its support for member farms in adopting sustainable practices.
Rachel Turgasen, Senior Director of Member Relations and Corporate Sustainability at Foremost Farms, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “This partnership allows Foremost Farms to amplify our commitment to sustainability and support our members in their efforts. Together, we will drive positive change in the dairy industry and contribute to a more sustainable future.”
Vanguard Renewables, renowned for its expertise in on-farm anaerobic digestion, assesses potential locations for digester projects among its member companies. Since its establishment in 2020, the Farm Powered Strategic Alliance has attracted notable players in the food industry, including Chobani, Kikkoman Foods, and most recently, Danone.
The alliance’s primary objective is to enhance renewable energy production through anaerobic digestion. Vanguard Renewables recently formed a partnership with AstraZeneca, utilizing the pharmaceutical giant’s manufacturing capabilities to scale up renewable gas production. This collaboration underscores the increasing momentum behind sustainable initiatives within the corporate sector.
