LAHORE: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nestle Pakistan Limited (NPL) to collaborate on research in product innovation, reproductive biotechnology, livestock health, dairy animal breeding, and improving dairy farm economics.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at UVAS City Campus, where Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) and Nestle Pakistan CEO/Managing Director Jason Avancena signed the agreement.
The event was attended by Faculty of Veterinary Science Dean Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani, Department of Parasitology Chairman Prof. Dr. Kamran Ashraf, Head of Technical at Nestle Mr. Faisal Nadeem, Head of Corporate Affairs at Nestle Waqar Ahmad Sheikh, and senior UVAS faculty members from the Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition and the Theriogenology Department, alongside officials from Nestle Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus emphasized the mutual benefits of this cooperation, besides its potential to enhance the dairy sector and boost productivity and profitability for the farming community.
Jason Avancena underscored the importance of addressing climate change issues through solution-based research projects and lauded UVAS’s contributions to the livestock sector’s development in Pakistan. He also stressed the need for strong academia-industry partnerships to advance the livestock sector.
During his visit, Jason Avancena planted a sapling at the City Campus to promote greenery. He also toured various sections of the UVAS Pet Center accompanied by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus.
Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani stressed the necessity of developing livestock policies to uplift the sector in Pakistan and highlighted UVAS’s efforts to update its curriculum to meet modern needs.
Faisal Nadeem spoke about sustainability in the dairy value chain, further underscoring the importance of the collaboration.
This partnership aims to develop the livestock and dairy sectors through research and innovative solutions, benefiting both organizations and the farming community.
