LAHORE: The departments of Clinical Medicine & Surgery (CMS) and Parasitology of the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore jointly organised a two-day national workshop on “Role of migratory birds in disease dissemination” funded by Punjab Agriculture Research Board (PARB) and another workshop on “Handling and Restraining of Migratory Birds with Tick Identification” funded by Higher Education Commission.
Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the concluding session of the workshops on Friday and distributed certificates among the participants. Prof Dr Shahid Karim from University of Mississippi USA, Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani and Dr Imran Rasheed were resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha appreciated the efforts of organisers and participants from different organizations and universities in Pakistan. He stressed the need for developing linkages and taking steps for prevention of diseases spread by migratory birds.
The objective was to highlight the importance of migratory birds in ecosystem and threats faced by these amazing species in Pakistan. The workshops also highlighted the threat of diseases dissemination by these species of birds while they visit Pakistan in winter via Indus flyway. The workshops recommended different measures to minimize the danger of diseases spread by these varieties of birds.
