Government’s new initiative offers free goats and subsidized large livestock to empower farmers, widows, and low-income households across Punjab.

LAHORE: The Government of Punjab has launched the Free Livestock Scheme October 2025, a landmark initiative aimed at boosting rural livelihoods and reducing poverty among low-income and landless families. The program provides free goats and subsidized cows and buffaloes, helping struggling farmers, widows, and daily-wage workers build sustainable income sources.

Officials said the scheme is designed to improve food security, nutrition, and rural economic growth, particularly in areas where livestock farming is a key source of survival. Along with animal distribution, beneficiaries will receive training in animal care and farm management, ensuring long-term impact and income generation.

Under the plan, goats are provided completely free, while cows and buffaloes are available at 70% and 60% government subsidies, respectively. Priority is being given to women-headed households, small farmers, and families registered under the BISP or Ehsaas programs.

Applicants can register online via the Punjab Livestock Department’s official portal or through local livestock offices and union councils. After verification, approved beneficiaries will receive livestock from nearby government centers. Officials emphasized that this initiative reflects Punjab’s commitment to rural empowerment, agricultural growth, and self-reliance, offering thousands of families a chance to rebuild their livelihoods through livestock ownership.
