LAHORE: The Chairman of the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan, Farrukh Amil, during a recent visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, stressed the importance of educating and guiding young students and researchers in matters of innovation and intellectual property rights utilization.
He was accompanied by Deputy Director of Public Relations Officer Munir Hussain and PS Chairman IPO Hasnain. The delegation met with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad to discuss matters of mutual interest.
During the detailed meeting, chaired by Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, several senior faculty members and administrative officers of UVAS were in attendance.
Amil commended UVAS leadership for creating awareness among faculty members regarding the acquisition of patent rights, stressing the need for copyright registration and trade marking. He encouraged the university to organize innovative business competitions to promote entrepreneurship and attract young individuals to start their own ventures.
Highlighting the significance of agricultural technology, Amil urged the adoption of innovative techniques to enhance food production in the country to meet the demands of the growing population.
He underscored the importance of supporting young researchers and scientists who bring innovation to their work, emphasizing that trademark and copyright registration are essential for businesses.
Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad shared that UVAS ranks among the top 801-1000 universities globally and is the 3rd in the Punjab public sector according to the Time Higher Education World University Rankings. He mentioned a significant achievement of UVAS in obtaining a drug manufacturing license and registration from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) for Foot & Mouth vaccine production.
He mentioned that two UVAS faculty members have been awarded national patents, with 10 more patent applications awaiting approval. UVAS clinics have undergone digitization to provide enhanced services to pet owners, and the university is actively focusing on improving technical, soft, and communication skills in students, he added.
Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad suggested incorporating a hyperlink to the IPO on the UVAS website to guide researchers in registering their works.
The visit underscored the collaborative efforts between IPO Pakistan and UVAS in promoting intellectual property awareness and fostering innovation in academia.
